Were there any friendly fire incidents involving American submarines, aircraft carriers, or battleships during World War II or World War I?

USS Tang pictured above, was an ace US submarine… until she literally sank herself with a circular running torpedo.

USS Pompano was mistakenly bombed by aircraft from USS Enterprise but managed to escape.

Here’s another one:

What would happen if the Soviet Union had simply annexed Manchuria after World War 2 or kept it independent as a puppet state allied them and separate from China as China was too weak too oppose it anyway?

Oh yeah. These kinds of incidents are quite common even in modern war, let alone back then.
